Martens Campground May 1 through Sept. 30 seasonal campsites available nestled in-between Lake Thompson and Lake Henry located near Lake Preston and De Smet, South Dakota.

Martens Campground has 54 camp sites located between the largest natural lake in South Dakota, Lake Thompson, and Lake Henry. We are open May 1 through Sept. 30. We have a number of seasonal campers who enjoy fishing and socializing. Great people, great times!

Lake Preston Fire Chief Brian Zeeck told KELOLAND News a man was rescued from a tipped camper on Lake Thompson. Zeeck said crews had to cut a hole in the camper to get the man, who was uninjured, out of the camper.

Wow! It started as a typical summer storm and changed in a nanosecond when powerful winds, estimated at 80-plus mph, passed through and managed to flip four units. All but one were vacant. The person in that unit was headed out the door when it flipped on its side -- he claims to have only suffered some minor bruising. It could have ended tragically. We also lost power when the storm passed through. On the bright side, we had some pretty awesome people show up today and they jumped right in to help. What a blessing! I'm not going to name names for fear of leaving someone out. But we seen all of you scurrying around and, oh, boy, what a crew! We cannot begin to thank you enough! You are the best!
