Located in Lansing NC, a small, serene town full of friendly and hospitable folks. Offering reduced rates until spring when we have our official Grand Opening! Close to the Virginia Creeper Trail, Mount Jefferson State Park, the Appalachian Trail, Grayson Highlands State Park, Boone/Blowing Rock, and the New River Winery and demo vineyard. The Lost Province is a gorgeous home built in the early 50
’s out of granite stone and overlooking Big Horse Creek - a world class hatchery-stocked trout stream with refreshing swimming holes, and within walking distance of The Creeper Trail Park, which hosts a farmer's market every Thursday (spring thru fall) as well as frequent local events and festivals including the annual Ola Belle Reed Festival. It’s a great place for motorcycle enthusiasts to unwind (and park your bike in a secure garage) after going for a twisty ride on “The Snake,” a popular motorcycle destination, or for hikers and cyclists to call home base while they go out and explore all the area has to offer. Enjoy delicious pizza, subs and salads at Pie on the Mountain, or some typical southern soul food at Country House or Smithey’s Cafe, then browse local arts and crafts at Phoenix Mountain Arts gallery or look for some deals at Lansing Thrift or Main Street Discount. Phipps Country Store is just 4 miles up the road, and they have bluegrass and ole’ time country music jams every Friday night. You can also take a short drive out to West Jefferson for even more options, like Boondocks Brewery which just made its welcomed debut, as well as a wide variety of gift stores, like Ashe County Cheese and The Honey Hole, lots of art galleries, and the Ashe County Farmer’s Market every Saturday. A unique place to stay, the Lost Province is simple yet eclectic and offers two guest rooms on the main floor. Choose “Earth” or “Sky” - warm and inviting or cool and calming - both providing luxurious king size beds. Sky is a southwest facing room offering a lovely view of a mountain ridge just beyond Big Horse Creek and a large open field, which is soon to become an expansion of Lansing’s Creeper Trail Park. Sky also has two desks to give you the perfect opportunity to work on that novel you never finished, stream some music, or just waste time browsing the internet if you are so inclined. Earth faces southeast and looks out to the large side porch, beyond which is a gently sloping yard (soon to include organic herb and vegetable gardens with heirloom produce) and further still is a beautiful distant view of Mount Phoenix. The living room has a lovely fireplace to enjoy during the winter months. There’s a couch, loveseat, and chair with an ottoman for reading and relaxing, and if you feel like vegging in front of the TV, we have a nice flat screen equipped with streaming Hulu and Netflix, and we have a nice selection of books and DVDs as well. You can use your laptop or smartphone anywhere in the house with our fiber optic wifi. There are two full bathrooms on the main floor. You can choose to enjoy our local and farm fresh breakfast in the dining room or on the side porch during warmer weather, and we’ve got plenty of coffee and tea ready for you anytime. About Your Host:
I am originally from Charlotte and discovered Lansing NC when the wonderful folks of Lansing Rocks purchased "Fort Awesome" back in 2006. I was thrilled to be a part of the official opening of Fort Awesome as a hostel and happily hosted it during the summer of 2012, but when the opportunity arose to rent and hopefully purchase the house that has now become the Lost Province, I simply couldn't resist! The vibe I cultivate here is open, relaxed and fun with a strong focus on art, creativity, sustainability, and the broadening of perspectives through communication and understanding. Although I do like to play hard, I also work very hard toward my goals for the future of this place - I plan to create an organic farm right here on the property to provide fresh produce, eggs, milk, and meats, including a beehive, chicken coop, and of course, heirloom vegetable and herb gardens. I also intend on using the large basement as an art studio for guests and local residents to feel free to create and experiment, as well as a space to offer classes and workshops on primitive arts like candle making, soap making, canning, organic gardening, DIY organic cleaning products, wine-making, beekeeping, foraging, etc. (Any assistance in these endeavors is welcome and appreciated!) The Lost Province will do everything possible to work with and promote local farmers, artists, musicians, craftsmen, and proprietors of all manner of businesses. I must admit I'm partial to New River Winery, Pie On The Mountain, Phoenix Mountain Arts, (both a short walk downtown) Phipps Country Store (about 4 miles up the road), and especially Rose Mountain Farms (Ann Rose farms the best local meats and produce around). There are frequent opportunities to attend local events, annual festivals and social gatherings, whether they are here in Lansing or in West Jefferson or Boone. I truly look forward to meeting and hosting interesting, friendly, like-minded guests just like you!
