The Lagun Onak Las Vegas Basque Club was formed in October 1980 and officially incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1983. Originally the nucleus of the group was made up of former Jai Alai players who had moved to Las Vegas to play at the old MGM Hotel and few other local Basques. The purpose of the Basque Club has always been to preserve the ancient Basque Culture and language, Euskara, in order to help reconnect immigrants to their homeland and educate the future generations about their ancestry. Lagun Onak Las Vegas Basque Club is a member of the North American Basque Organization (NABO) and is officially recognized by the Basque Autonomous Government. Throughout the past 33 years, the club has held yearly festivals, hosted numerous events from international Mus Tournaments to NABO meetings, and are the proud home of their own Basque dance group named, Ibar Izarrak (Stars of The Valley). Annually the Las Vegas Basque Club also participates in the International Food Festival, providing famous Basque Cuisine to the Clark County community. There are many events throughout the year that club members gather and celebrate the local Basque Community. A couple events coming up in southern Nevada, sharing our Basque culture and watching the Picon documentary that Mark Maynard made.

📣 Have you ever had a Picon Punch? Curious about the story of Nevada's new official state drink?

🎞️Join Nevada Humanities next week in southern Nevada for screenings of "Piconland," a documentary about Nevada's new official state drink and its connections to our state's Basque heritage and traditions. Afterwards, we'll be treated to conversations with Piconland director and writer Mark Maynard and panelists Joe Cannella (Ferino Distillery) and Brad McMullen (Nevada Arts Council).

🎟️🔗 These programs will take place on Wednesday, July 29, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at West Las Vegas Library and on Thursday, July 30, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Boulder City Library.
