The big question we get asked every year, "When is the best time to see the fall foliage?" The answer is the next couple of weeks! If you haven't planned your fall getaway now is the time! Lots of color change over the last week so it should be in full swing over the next two weeks. We have cottages still available for this weekend and a couple for next along with a couple of rooms in the main lodge. You can book online or give us a call!! Little River Canyon and Desoto State Park are withing driving distance with great leaf watching opportunities. And don't forget our local wineries that have views and great wines!

Salutations!! Sally here at The Secret Bed and Breakfast! Once a week Kris walks in smelling of other dogs. She tries to sneak in past us so we don't know but we all know, after all we have a very keen sense of smell! She says she goes to a place called Summit's Sanctuary to help take care of homeless dogs. She goes on and on about how lucky all of us are and that we should want to help other dogs find good homes like ours. I gotta admit, I am a pretty lucky dog to get to snuggle with so many people, sleep on a comfy bed and have a full belly! So, I asked her to find a dog every time she goes that I can put here to help find a home. Today it's a dog named Domino. I chose him because he is an older guy at 8 years old and needs to live out his remaining time with someone to call his own. I am 10 years old and can't imagine a life without my people. He has a problem with his vision, but that does not seem to keep him from being able to find his way around the play yard at the sanctuary. Kris says that he reminds her a lot of Presley when he first showed up at The Secret.
So, if you are looking to add an older friend to your pack go check out Domino. If he is not the one please consider rescuing from a local rescue or shelter.

October's full moon officially occurred at 12:12 am Monday morning but it looked pretty full to me Sunday night. I was definitely not up at midnight but I did actually see it setting on the other side of the property at 5:30 am. It's too hard to get a photo when you are trying to get two dogs to go potty so you just have to enjoy the photos the night before. Still a stunning view!
The October full moon is known as the Hunter's Moon because its light would shine in the fields after harvest so that the hunters could see to hunt.

Happy Monday!!! Loving this cooler weather, soon we will be seeing the Christmas lights warming homes everywhere. We usually begin our decorating after Veteran's Day so be on the lookout. Once the lights are on the roof you can see us from Leesburg! For those of you who are planners now is the time to plan those family or friend gatherings for the holidays. We have room to sleep up to 18 on our property if you are looking for a place to gather. The good news is that you don't have to decorate or worry about cleaning your house!

What a beautiful Sunday!!! We were fortunate to have a full house this weekend, and the weather showed off! We love this small town, as do many of our guests. Most who visit talk about how they like the slow pace and lack of traffic and congestion, as well as how friendly everyone is. This morning, however, the conversation revolved around an adventure that a group of ladies had yesterday when they went out for dinner. They were going to Decks and Docks, and their GPS had them turn before the bridge onto the road in front of the Leesburg Lodge. We do normally tell guests about this turn, but are specific about turning right as soon as you turn off 411. The driver missed the turn and went down into the parking area of the Leesburg Lodge. Upon realizing their mistake, they were on their way out when they were pursued by a vehicle that was waving and yelling at them to pull over. When they pulled over, the occupants of the vehicle began fussing at them about how they were costing them money by coming into their parking lot. There was also a derogatory remark regarding the teenage daughter of one of the ladies. We do send guests to Decks and Docks via this road but are very specific about turning immediately right. If this is not allowed it needs to be addressed.
We live in a community that is very dependent upon tourism so it is important to portray ourselves in a kind light. We do our best to promote all of our local businesses as I hope others do for us and hope that everyone puts their best foot forward for the benefit of the community as a whole. Fortunately the ladies in question viewed their experience as an adventure and have said that they will be back, but it could have ended differently.

Salutations! Sally here at The Secret Bed and Breakfast! BRRRRR! It's been a little chilly in the mornings so I have been searching out the warm, sunny spots in the lodge. It's not quite the time of year where the sun hits my couch in the morning so I like to stay in the back where it comes in through the glass door. Not to worry, I will happily come out to see anyone once the early morning sun warms everything up! I certainly hope that Kris has my winter attire ready for when it stays cold during the day! The leaves are really starting to fall so I am sure the it won't be long before the cold stays with us all day. Speaking of leaves, if any of you are looking for some place to go to see all the pretty leaf colors I could sure use someone to snuggle on the couch with! Bring me a blanket and we will be cozy watching the sunrise!

Officially created in 1992, Little River Canyon Preserve protects what is considered to be the nation’s longest mountaintop river. Most of its entire length flows down the middle of Lookout Mountain beginning with headwaters in Georgia and emptying into the Coosa River and Weiss Lake. Over time the waters of the river have carved out one of the Southeasts deepest canyons and is said to have the cleanest and wildest waterways in the South. The canyon walls with its shear rock cliffs are more visible in the winter time with the dying down of vegetation. Eberhart Point along the Scenic Drive is the most convenient point to descend onto the canyon floor. This hike, however, is not for the faint of heart as it has a steep incline back up to the top! Remnants of what use to be an amusement park, including abandoned picnic shelters are still visible on its floor. If you can physically make the hike down the views are spectacular. And don’t forget on your way out to stop and take in all the other overlooks as well as take in the movie at the Canyon Center. Used as a research facility for Jacksonville State University, it is a must see for anyone interested in the natural history of the area.

As seasons change the landscape changes with it. Winter to Spring, Spring to Summer, Summer to Fall. Life has its seasons as well. Throughout life, things change. From birth we are continually changing. From an infant learning to crawl to adults walking down the isle with our first true love. As we move through the seasons of life we must learn to appreciate each one. To find that special moment, like the glitter of the sun on the newly fallen snow, or the sun setting over a valley of golds and reds.
