This th*****me started out in a very dull, drab and low key manner. I really struggled to bring some color and interest into the painting. I may have overdone it! :)

I liked the shape of these mushrooms and had fun painting them. They are supposed to have white spots on the tops, but I chose to leave those off for this painting. I think these might be ones to avoid because of the 'skirt' on the stems, but I'm really not sure as I'm not a mycophile.

The May theme was Fungi or the Fungus among Us. Eileen Rivoir contributed this piece and said, "I am in the high desert area of Colorado for most of the month, so no mushrooms growing here, just lots of red sand, dust, and rocks; I am also limited by a small box of cheap hashi soft pastels. I see so many western pastellists' paintings of red cliffs and sage brush, but find myself craving babbling brooks, ferns, moss and hemlocks."

Here is Jill Foster's contribution to the April Challenge:
Precipitation Shaft. 5x7 on multimedia board.

I had a difficult time with this painting. I was working over an old painting and I couldn't get the colors to come together the way I wanted. I don't know if the older painting underneath was a 'bad influence' or if it was just me struggling to get something to look atmospheric. Probably a bit of both.

Shirley Vogelsong submitted this "atmospheric effects" painting:

Title: Rainy Day

I never tried to paint rain before so this was a challenge. Having no photos of rain I had to resort to the Internet to find something. This is a very simple expression of rain and I hope it gives you a feeling of a wet day.

Denise Wagner's April themed painting:

Painted in soft pastels and pastel pencils on Clairefontaine Pastelmat.
The size is 9 x 6. I just love red for danger and blue for dark and misty.

April's theme was Atmospheric Effects. Jeanne McKinney submitted this contribution.

“After the Hurricane”
This painting of dramatic clouds above Monhegan Island, Maine, was inspired by the aftermath of a hurricane that moved up the coast and out to sea.

WIP - I still haven't finished this painting. I set it aside to think about the final details I wanted to put in and/or change and then never got back to it. I've put it on my 'to do' list.
