I am learning a weird amount about commercial door hardware. Do you know those “exit devices” on doors that you have to press to leave a room?

They are required in a lot of commercial situations so I have been trying very hard to find ones that don’t have that very stainless steel, corporate look and it is hard (and expensive)!

There are a lot of requirements to meet between ADA, fire code, energy code, different rules for single doors and double doors etc…

It’s easy to just get pushed into the “standard solution” but Joe from Doorcraft has been answering all my questions and I think we have a pretty good solution where the hardware itself looks more historic and we are able to pair them with salvaged door handles rather than commercial-looking levers.

I ordered two devices on Friday. They have a 6-8 week lead time, eek.

ADA ramp update! It's going to be nearly 50 feet long. Here's a little behind-the-scenes look at how it’s going.

We’re getting to the fun part! Picking out all the little details.

Pictured: A new green velvet gem for the lounge, old brass towel hooks (I’m now hunting antique and salvage stores for more), and one of the beautiful doors we salvaged in Maine, soon to be the inn’s new front entrance.

After so much time thinking about all the big stuff, it’s very exciting to focus on the small (but important!) things.

Fall feels like a pretty good time to give you another proper look inside the Lodge 🍂

We zhuzhed it up this spring, with refreshed guest rooms and hallways, new signs, plus a brand new Lodge Lounge (so happy about this) with coffee, a TV, couch, just a nice spot to hang.

It was so nice to see people enjoying the space this summer, but now you have to come see it in all its autumn glory! 🍂

A little behind-the-scenes look at how we’re planning to share Avaloch’s history. I could talk about this stuff forever 🤓
