The Wortley Hotel

The Wortley Hotel A Bed and Breakfast in Historic Lincoln, New Mexico. Step back in time and enjoy the sunset with us. W. Bell and U. S. Marshall Bob Ollinger, in the process.

The historic Wortley Hotel, formerly owned by Sheriff Pat Garrett, is located in scenic Lincoln, New Mexico, the former stomping grounds of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Billy the Kid broke out of jail for the last time in Lincoln, killing Deputy J. Bob was eating at the Wortley, along with several prisoners from the jail, when the breakout occurred. It was his last meal. Billy the Kid was consid

ered too damned dangerous to be taken across the street and fed at the Wortley. He took his meals in the courthouse. He talked J. Bell into allowing him to go to the outhouse while everyone else was gone to lunch. On his way back from the outhouse, Billy overpowered and shot Bell. When Ollinger heard the shot he dropped his fork and ran across the street. Billy let him have it with both barrels of his own shotgun. He died well fed. If you enjoy clean mountain air, rocking on the front porch, pitching horseshoes, listening to the quiet, rubbing elbows with colorful characters and exploring New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, have we got a place for you. Come and stay awhile. Each room has it's own entrance, fireplace, private bathroom and antique queen bed. Rates are $125 per night up to double occupancy. Included in your stay is a delicious home cooked breakfast.

The Friends of the Lincoln Historic Site do so much good in this community! Great map!

Have you ever wondered what exactly is the Lincoln Historic Site? Well, we've got a map for you! The Lincoln Historic Site is the most visited of all the New Mexico Historic Sites and is unique for several reasons, not least because it's a historic site that's interwoven in the tiny, living community of Lincoln. The Lincoln Historic Site comprises 17 structures, 9 of which are open to the public as museums, scattered among other privately owned historic buildings that are owned by the fifty or so residents who call this community their home. The map shows how integral the Historic Site is to this community. We, the Friends of the Lincoln Historic Site, exist to help protect, preserve, and promote the Historic Site with fundraising, education, outreach and more. If you'd like to help, please visit our brand new website at https://www.friendsoflincoln.org/ where you can now easily make a donation online. The Historic Site has two big projects for which we need to raise considerable funds, including restoration of the bell tower on the historic church, the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, and resurfacing and stabilization of the Torreón. Thank you and we hope to see in you in Lincoln soon!

All is calm, all is bright here in Lincoln and at the Wortley Hotel Bed & Breakfast. The tradition of luminaries on Christmas Eve (the real ones in paper bags, etc.) lining the road is magical, evoking a rare calm and sweet peace. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. 🎄
