Father Matthew Millay has logged more than 2,000 miles in the last four months driving all around the Archdiocese of Louisville to meet with people discerning a call to the priesthood and consecrated life.
“We get a lot of inquiries, more than people might think,” said Father Millay in an interview ahead of National Vocation Awareness Week, observed Nov. 1 to 7 this year. Father Millay is director of vocations for the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Vocation Office and pastor of the Church of the Ascension.
“New people reach out every week. We accompany them in their walk with the Lord, as they face the big questions of life,” he said. “I pretty much live in my car. If I’m not at my parish, I’m meeting with someone in discernment. I try to meet them where they are — maybe with their pastor at the church they attend. It gives me a better idea of who they are and what they’re doing.”
