Waterford Historical Society Jumps Into Summer
Waterford—As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, the Waterford Historical Society raises up the town’s complicated and intriguing history as a Connecticut River settlement dating to 1780.
Taking a first look halfway back in time, the volunteer group teams up with the Davies Memorial Library on Saturday June 20 at 1 pm to welcome UVM professor of anthropology Luis Vivanco presenting “When the Bicycle Came to Vermont.” More than a mechanical invention, bicycles in the 1880s prompted road improvements, gave women a chance to enjoy a wheeled sport, and opened novel advertising techniques for retailers.
Enjoy the lively talk with its many visual treats, then dip into refreshments, with donut morsels generously donated by Eddie’s Bakery, a local business marking its own historic 70th anniversary this year.
