Today we celebrate the birthday of one of Lubbock’s most iconic sons, Buddy Holly—a West Texas original whose music changed rock & roll and whose legacy continues to live right here in the city he called home 🎸

From the streets of Lubbock to stages around the world, Buddy’s unmistakable sound helped put our hometown on the musical map. His influence can still be felt throughout the Hub City—from the Buddy Holly Center and West Texas Walk of Fame to the music, creativity, and spirit that continue to define Lubbock.

We’re proud to call this place home and to celebrate the history, music, and larger-than-life personalities that make Lubbock so special.

Throughout the Woodrow House, we have touches of Buddy Holly and his legacy in our community. Come see for yourself and celebrate a local legend!

This is a great holiday weekend to enjoy Lubbock! The Red Raiders kick off the 2026 football season Saturday night at 6 pm against Abilene Christian—and there’s plenty happening around town all weekend long.

✨ Friday: First Friday Art Trail + Buddy Holly’s 90th Birthday Bash kickoff with a drive-in movie
🌾 Saturday: Downtown Farmers Market, Living History Saturday at the National Ranching Heritage Center + Texas Tech Football at 6 p.m.
🎶 Sunday: Live music around town and plenty of places to enjoy a laid-back Lubbock evening
🎸 Monday: Celebrate Lubbock legend Buddy Holly at his 90th Birthday Bash at the Buddy Holly Center, featuring live music, trivia, family activities and more—FREE from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.!
