September 1998 University of Washington Huskies (Mens hockey) Head Coach Cindy Dayley and Assistant Coach Zoë Harris became the first women to be coaches of a men’s collegiate hockey team, having coached the Huskies Men’s team from 1998-2004, with a record of 142-43-1.
Their coaching paraphernalia was entered in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto for having been the first women to coach a men’s collegiate ice hockey team in 1998.
Dayley earned two PAC-8 Conference Coach of the Year awards in 2002 and 2004, and one American Collegiate Hockey Association ACHA-West Coach of the Year award in 2002. She was the first in woman to receive these awards. She won the Sports Dedicated Service Award – University of Washington and the Seattle Mariners Women of the Year Award in 2004.
