The last weekend of the 2026 season has arrived!

Lots of fun festivities happening on Mackinac Island including the Great Turtle Trail Run, downtown trick-or-treating, and costume parties after dark. 🎃

While we kindly ask guests to leave their pets at home when they visit Stonecliffe, we were pleased to host Captain Bean (named after Apollo 12 Astronaut Alan Bean) and his Reserve Canine Officer from the Mackinac Island Police Department yesterday for training on property.

Captain Bean is a Wire-Haired Dachshund undergoing training for specific scent trailing to aid in the search of missing persons. Historically, bloodhounds have also been trained for this purpose.

A volunteer was on property for this training to serve as a missing person, and Captain Bean was given a quick scent sample and began his search. Within a few minutes, he had located the individual on property! 👏🏼

We were happy to partner with the MIPD for this important training and look forward to seeing where Captain Bean’s career takes him!
