Happy International Sloth Day from our slow-moving, fun-loving Linnaeus's two-toed sloth, Mochi!

Let's slow down for a moment and learn about different threats sloths like Mochi face, and explore how we can get involved in making a difference:

🦥 Habitat loss has detrimental effects on sloths around the world. This threat leads to sloths having to cross roads or use power lines to relocate.
🦥 Deforestation is a leading cause of declining sloth populations, as their habitats are being cleared for farm land to be used for products such as coffee and soybeans.
🦥 The illegal pet trade and being hunted for meat are additional threats that sloths face.

Researching the products that you buy and recycling as much as possible can have powerful impacts on sloth populations. Through mindfulness and intentionality, we can make a difference for sloths around the world!

On World Animal Day and International Zookeeper Day, we're proud to recognize the beautiful animals that call Georgia Safari home and the incredible Animal Care Team who ensures our residents are taken care of day or night, rain or shine, 24/7, 365. 🧡

What sets Georgia Safari apart is the variety of animals that call our Park home. While all of our animals come from other zoological facilities, their species hail from different parts of the world.

Our Ambassador Animals like the Brazilian Three-Banded Armadillo, Chinchilla, and Linnaeus's Two-toed Sloth are native to Central and South America, while others come from countries like Africa, Australia, and North America.

Our Barn crew, who you meet through our Barn Tour, Safari Encounter Tour, or Wild Adventure Safari, the Reticulated Giraffe and Southern White Rhinoceros, are native to the African Savanna.

The animals you see grazing the open savanna on your safari tour like the American Bison, Common Waterbuck, and Nilgai are native to many different countries, including Africa, Asia, and North America.

Caring for our diverse animal population isn't always easy, but our Animal Care Team carries out our vision of creating a world where animals thrive, and their natural habitats are valued and protected by the stewardship of humankind.

Join us for a tour at Georgia Safari where you can learn more about the incredible animals who call our Park home.

Today is a big day at the Safari as we celebrate the birthdays of Brutus and Minnie! 🦬

Did you know that American Bison like Brutus and Minnie are the heaviest land mammal in North America and are our national mammal? You might say they're quite a big deal!

American Bison like to wallow in dirt or muddy puddles to repel against flies and shed unwanted fur.

Have you seen any American Bison wallowing on your Georgia Safari adventures? Let us know in the comments, and stop by the safari to wish Brutus and Minnie a big happy birthday!
