On International Ungulate Awareness Day, we want to highlight our incredible Animal Care Team that ensures our ungulates receive top-notch hoof care.

The term "ungulate" refers to mammals with hooves, many of whom call Georgia Safari home. Ungulates you may have seen on a past safari adventure include Bison, Giraffe, Lechwe, Rhino, and Zebra.

Similar to human fingernails, ungulate hooves continuously grow, which requires that they be cared for often to protect their quality of life and well-being. As an American Humane Certified zoological facility, Georgia Safari provides stellar care to our diverse population of ungulates, tailored to their specific needs. Stop by the Safari to see how many Ungulates you can spot!

June is Zoo & Aquarium Month! This month commemorates the role zoos and aquariums around the world play in conversation, education, recreation, and research.

Georgia Safari was developed to encourage responsible tourism practices while building a regional zoological culture devoted to the conservation of threatened and endangered wildlife. As we celebrate our second anniversary, we recognize this wouldn't be possible without our incredible teams across Animal Care, Education, Guest Services, Safety & Security, and Sales. Help us recognize our incredible team members and celebrate them all month long! ✨

From the Bayou State to the Peach State...meet the newest hooves on the block at Georgia Safari, Frannie! Frannie, a 1.5 year old Reticulated Giraffe, joins us from Global Wildlife Center in Folsom, Louisiana.

Born on September 10, 2024, Frannie was named after Hurricane Francine, which made landfall in Louisiana just one day after her birth. Her personality starkly contrasts the origin of her name - she is described as curious, social, engaging, and creative. Her great-grandmother, Kameel, the matriarch of Global Wildlife Center's giraffe tower, is believed to be the second-oldest giraffe in North America at 33 years old.

Frannie is acclimating well as she trades Mardi Gras beads and gumbo for peaches and golf. She fits right in with Georgia Safari's giraffe tower, and we cannot wait to watch her grow. πŸ§‘πŸ¦’

Did you know that tortoises can be turtles, but not all turtles can be tortoises? 🐒

There are multiple key distinctions when it comes to tortoises and turtles, like their shells, habitats, and legs. Tortoises also spend most of their lives on land, while turtles spend most of their lives in water.

61 percent of these incredible reptiles are either threatened or extinct due to illegal activity, exotic food trade, habitat destruction, and climate change. Every minute without change puts us closer to a world without them.

Gopher Tortoises like Hermes, the newest addition to the Georgia Safari crew, and other reptiles have faced the threat of extinction due to illegal activity, exotic food trade, habitat destruction, and climate change. Every minute without change puts us closer to a world without them.

Join us at Georgia Safari to meet and learn about tortoises like Hermes by booking your safari adventure at the link: https://bit.ly/4qLlRMa

Have you heard the buzz? Today is World Bee Day! 🐝

Bees and other pollinators play a critical role in our ecosystem and the health of our environment, animals, plants, and people. Did you know that 35% of food crops around the world rely on pollinators to reproduce? That's 1 in every 3 bites of food you eat! Pollinators affect 75% of the world's fruits, vegetables, and nuts. (USDA)

Their populations are rapidly declining due to various factors, including pesticides, pathogens, habitat loss, and climate change. The good news? There are plenty of ways we can "bee" part of the change and help restore bee and pollinator populations! Join the hive and consider taking part in these habits:

πŸ’› Plant pollinator-friendly flowers
πŸ’› Select organic, sustainable food choices
πŸ’› Shop local for bee products and honey
πŸ’› Steer clear of harmful chemicals and pesticides

Memorial Day weekend is approaching soon, and while many of us prepare to celebrate with barbecues and pool parties, Georgia Safari wants to recognize and remember what the holiday weekend is about. It isn't about grilling or swimming, it is about remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and their families for our nation.

To commemorate our heroes, Georgia Safari is offering 10% off of touring tickets for Military and First Responders, their families, and friends from May 23rd to May 25th as a small token of appreciation with the code REMEMBER10.
