Here's a little moonshine history for y'all... and something to think about when you see these two at Hillbilly Jam 2026.
Most folks know the name Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton, the legendary Appalachian moonshiner whose stories, moonshine runs, and larger-than-life personality helped make him a folk hero throughout the Smokies. Popcorn spent decades perfecting his craft and became one of the most recognized names in moonshine history.
What many people may not know is that JB Rader was one of Popcorn's closest friends, trusted associates, and longtime moonshining companions. J.B. learned from the old-school traditions and has spent years helping preserve the heritage and craftsmanship that made mountain moonshining famous. Today, he's considered a legend in his own right and continues sharing those traditions with new generations.
J.B. was there during Popcorn's later years and is one of the few people who can tell firsthand stories about those final moonshine days that have now become part of Appalachian history. The legacy of Popcorn Sutton continues through the stories, memories, and traditions carried forward by people like J.B. Rader.
And standing beside that legacy is Solomon Sutton, Popcorn's son.
That's right...
At Hillbilly Jam 2026, you'll have the opportunity to meet both J.B. Rader and Solomon Sutton, hear their stories, shake their hands, take photos, and connect with a living piece of Appalachian history.
For moonshine fans, mountain culture enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates preserving our heritage, this is something special.
We'll see y'all at the Jam! π»π»ποΈ
