A beautiful, historic, and expanded 100-acre parcel of incredible habitats, trails, and land sits one mile northeast of Mancelona, Michigan, on US 131. The gift of being positioned at the top snow in lower Michigan annually makes for deep natural snow and epic steep runs. From the 1950s until the mid 1980s, Mt (or Mount) Mancelona provided the town of Mancelona with a gathering spot for the commun

ity, a small, intimate ski area for winter sports lovers, and an economic support system for the counties of Antrim and Kalkaska. The legends here run deep from the Axtman Family founders to it's first revival in early 1990’s by Joe Omness and his one of two first in world “Snowboard Only” resorts in 93/94. Over all this time legends were born. Many folks have come back to revisit who spent time at Mt Mancelona and have recalled, with passion and nostalgia, their memories of and their hopes for a resurrection of Mt Mancelona. We are in year three and working every day patiently to bring the mountain back! Mucho help and membership support are welcome with gratitude! Sam Porter, a Rapid City farm boy, Traverse City To Bozeman, MT world traveler, and entrepreneur, and hundreds of Friends of Mt Mancelona have embarked on this purpose, economic and cultural incubator and business dream – a Mountain of Dreams – to preserve and revitalize Mt Mancelona. Sam and good folks have rebuilt, revived and rediscovered the history and many opportunities for others to participate at Mt Mancelona. We have planted a farm of seeds to begin to grow a cultural, educational, health and wellness outdoor recreation music and arts hub centered in the midst of this historic home-grown community ski hill. Sams passion, patients and purpose live here with him everyday at Mt Mancelona as it becomes a “Ski & B” BC and four season playground welcoming innovative model. “It will provide perennial abundance and enduring value and be enjoyable, accessible, and educational. We see great potential in reaching a wide audience–throughout the state of Michigan, and throughout the United States with one goal to co-create what we call a “Giftchise” that will replicate good work for some if the other closed and lost community ski resorts, mainly in small rural towns where this work is needed now more than ever.” Sam Porter

Thank you to the long-time friends of MM... The outpouring of love and support is humbling. Especially two good humans who have been here countless times over the years who wrote the kind letters attached... As true to much in life as we say “You have to see it to believe it” and with MM it's at the core reality of our effort. It has not been easy to try and revive a lost ski hill for community access and we have struggled through many unforeseen challenges but we have to be accountable for all even if out of our working hands.

Legend day last week! Glad our friends helped us catch this epic 42" Powder Day at Historic Mt Mancelona for Michigan Powder riding at its best! The older growth glades, hand-cut lines, and trails, natural cliffs, 2nd oldest running Doppelmyar 1958 T-Bar & Poma Lifts (currently not public but it's ready!), 1993 "Snowboard Only" years Stunt Ditch Half Pipe and 75+ acre oasis is the ultimate experience.

Ole Joe miraculously is ok after stopping to sniff fox to then getting run over by Tucker SnoCat. Luckily the snow was deep and he only got a gash under his eye. My heart stopped for my faithful best friend. T-Bar Joe has skied with many here and I had to buy a staple stitch gun from edge cuts. He is resilient, the most requested tour guide, and head of fox security outside of being everybody’s best pal who stays with us.
Joe is our third lab from Golden Eye Breeder Kim near Buckley and all are amazing!

Our 1958 Doppelmayr T-Bar is a historic gem and one we and Mike Agrusa our 32-year Mt Mancelona volunteer have kept running prepping for the day to be open again while not currently public. Mike said based on research it's the second oldest running in the world. We have rebuilt it to sheaves and Mike machined rare parts with some parts help thanks to Tim Meyer and Caberfae the mountain's long-time friend of founder Axy. This year we put on a new roof and painted the lift shack and cleared the entire lift run. It's ready for final safety additions and the 2:12 sec ride up gets the runs in. All the work and efforts of friends are held with massive gratitude. We are seeking partners and investments every day to make this dream become a reality. It's all ready for good hands and future public access!
