The quietest weeks to see Garden of the Gods and Manitou, and why they’re worth it:

1. November to January is typically the quietest stretch to visit.
2. September through April brings thinner crowds, easier parking and quieter trails.
3. Winter has the clearest skies of the year on Pikes Peak, thanks to the low humidity.
4. The big attractions stay open. The Cog Railway runs year-round in heated trains (weather permitting), and Cave of the Winds holds at 54°F inside no matter the season.
5. It’s cozy season: crisp mornings, early sunsets and hot tub steam. Pack layers and settle in, and enjoy the sauna and wellness amenities at The Outrider.

Save this for your quiet-season trip.

Adventure in the morning, a hot tub soak by afternoon.

Spend the day out there, whether it’s Garden of the Gods (0.7 mi), the Incline (2 mi), or an afternoon downtown. Then come back and run the circuit:

Hot tub to warm up
Finnish sauna to unwind
Cold plunge to invigorate

Roam free, rest easy.

Every spring in Manitou runs through different rock, so every one tastes a little different. Bring a cup and go mild to bold:

1. Seven Minute Spring: the mildest and least fizzy. An easy first sip, with a gazebo garden to sit in.
2. Twin Spring (Ruxton Ave): the longtime local favorite. Crisp and fizzy with a little bite at the end.
3. Stratton Spring (Manitou & Ruxton): the bubbliest water in town. Look for the bronze sculpture.
4. Navajo Spring: pleasantly fizzy, and the spring that first made Manitou famous.
5. Cheyenne Spring: a few steps from Navajo. Fuller and bubblier.
6. Wheeler Spring (behind the post office): salty, a little like baking soda.
7. Shoshone Spring: the warmest of the eight and one of the most mineral-heavy. An acquired taste.
8. Iron Spring (top of Ruxton Ave): save it for last. Big iron flavor. You’ll either love it or laugh, but either way you’ll be able to say you did them all!

Good to know: the springs are tested regularly, and they aren’t recommended for babies.

After the Incline or a morning at Garden of the Gods, the best plan is no plan: fire pits, a blanket, coffee from the lobby, and nowhere to be. Fall nights cool down fast so bring a layer (or plan for a hot tub soak!) and enjoy the stars.

Planning a trip to Manitou Springs, Colorado this October?

Here is what’s happening in town this month, from fall color to one of the strangest events in the state.

Look up first. The first two weeks of October are prime time for aspens around Pikes Peak.

Take the cog railway from the Manitou Springs depot, then walk Manitou Avenue and fill a water bottle at one of the town’s mineral springs.

Plan around Saturday, October 24. That’s the Emma Crawford Coffin Races, a costume parade and coffin race on Manitou Avenue that has become a fixture of Halloween season in Colorado Springs. It’s free to watch, and the parade starts at noon.
