Due to an unexpected freezer malfunction, the Tipple Tavern will be closed this weekend. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding while we work to resolve the issue.

🍔 Good news! The Trail 59 Grill will be open and serving food instead!

Trail Update 🚨

There has been some confusion regarding current trail closures on the Hatfield McCoy Trails System. Please make sure you are checking official Hatfield McCoy Trails page updates and posted trail signage before riding. We have updated maps in our store.

As of Monday, May 18, 2026, the direct access route into the Town of Matewan (Trail 21) and the surrounding pod of trails are closed.

The Town of Matewan, WV is still accessible by road from:
Trail 43 via WV-Route 49 and
Trail 59 via WV-Route 65
(approximately a 5-minute drive from both directions).

From Devil's Backbone Adventure Resort, Matewan is approximately a 10-minute drive by road via Mate Creek Road to WV-Route 65.

Devil Anse Trail remains connected to Buffalo Mountain Trail through Trail 59 to Trail 18, and riders are still able to access both systems.

Please continue to ride responsibly and follow all posted signs and closures while enjoying the trails.

Please be advised, a few trails around Matewan have been closed.

As of Monday, May 18th, 2026, the direct access route (Trail 21) into the Town of Matewan, and the surrounding pod of trails are closed.

The Town of Matewan is accessible from Trail 43 via WV-Route 49.

From Devil’s Backbone Adventure Resort, Matewan is about 10 minutes by road via WV-Route 65.

Devil Anse Trail to Buffalo Mountain Trail is still accessible via Trail 59 to Trail 18.

Trail Update – Devil Anse Trail System

Please be advised that approximately 20 miles of trails on the Devil Anse Trail System will be closed as of today, Monday, May 18th, 2026, due to unforeseen circumstances. This closure includes the direct access route, Trail 21, into the Town of Matewan, and the surrounding pod of trails.

However, riders will still be able to access the Town of Matewan, which is only a short ride along WV-Route 49, by using Trail 43. We have also added roughly 17 miles of new trails, which also includes some single track!

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue working to provide a safe and enjoyable riding experience for all visitors.

Please review the updated trail map before heading out to help plan your ride accordingly.
