Reached only by boat, Cayo Costa State Park off Floridas Gulf Coast feels like the kind of place you hear about from locals and then wonder why you waited so long to go. You pull up to the dock, step onto the island, and right away its quiet except for the breeze, the water, and the soft crunch of sand under your shoes. You spend the day walking wide empty beaches, spotting shells, swimming in clear water, and watching for dolphins, shorebirds, and maybe even a manatee drifting by. You can bike the trails, fish from the shore, picnic under the trees, and slow down enough to really take in the wild, untouched feel of it all. Getting there takes a little planning, but the peaceful setting, natural beauty, and laid-back pace make it more than worth it. You leave sun-soaked, salt-air happy, and already thinking about the next boat ride back.

I'm issuing a *BAD HAIR DAY ADVISORY* for the entire state of Florida this weekend as a cold front cranks up wind. Get the hair spray ready! Gusts between 35 - 45 mph possible. East Coast waves as high as 5 - 10 feet along the shore with 10 - 15 feet offshore. Dangerous rip currents too, be safe! 💨🌊
