We are pleased to launch our initial page and social media for Mt. Lawley Farms! Many of you are aware of this project that we have initiated but for those of you who do not know about our plans and goals for this venture, I would like to share those now on our first post. Mt. Lawley Farms is a dream project that Ali and I developed. Our initial plan was to develop a sour cherry orchard. Ali grew up eating sour cherries and loved them and we had a vision that perhaps we could grow them ourselves. My brother Todd sent us a posting of this property that was for sale in Mayslick with the caption, “future home of the sour cherry orchard?”. While it was somewhat made in jest, we looked at the property and it was beautiful. Two weeks later, we owned the farm and our dreams and plans were kicked into overdrive!
Mt. Lawley Farms allows us to bring together my love for my hometown of Maysville and Mason County with the ability to begin to work on a project with my brother, who had relocated back to Maysville. In addition, our father, Russell Jr, grew up in Lewisburg around the corner from Mayslick. He graduated from Mayslick High School in 1955 and would have taken the bus every day down Helena Road from his home to the high school. Add this to the beauty of this Amish established property and house and we couldn’t pass the opportunity up. Along with the orchard which we now have planted 200 sour cherry trees, we are developing the house and property into a high-end Bed and Breakfast to stimulate and capitalize on agrotourism and to help bring people into the area and promote the beauty or what Maysville and Mason County have to offer to those who may have only been here occasionally or never been here. As we develop the rest of the farm and the property, we will strive to make Mt. Lawley Farms Bed and Breakfast a hallmark of Mayslick and Mason County that allows travelers to experience the finest in refined country relaxation while exploring Maysville and the surrounding counties and discovering the charm and history of the area.
We are also anxious to partner with local established businesses to strengthen ties and support for all businesses in the area. We have already started with our first partnership venture with the local company Bee Hiving Combly in which the bees will help with pollination of the sour cherry trees and produce honey that we anticipate will be a tasty part of the experience of the visit or stay at Mt. Lawley Farms. As we continue the work on Mt. Lawley Farms we will provide routine updates about the main house as well as the other buildings and property. Work on the house is already well under way and we have already begun with our tree planting. But there is much more to come as we progress and we will keep you updated. Once completed, we anticipate being operational early 2025 and would welcome anyone and everyone to come visit or stay with us. More information to follow in the coming weeks! We are truly grateful for all the messages and kind words of support that we have received and are happy to answer any questions that you may have in the future!
