Food Friday — Breakfast is part of the stay here. We gather around the table in the Stone House, pour the coffee, and serve a homemade breakfast to start the day. And around here, breakfast always starts with dessert first. Everything is served on vintage dishes, and the morning is meant to be savored—lingering over coffee and conversation with your favorite innkeepers. It’s one of our favorite parts of welcoming guests.

Travel Thursday

Have you made it out to see the baby bison at Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area yet? It’s such a special stop—and the drive there is beautiful year-round. Winding roads, rolling hills, and lovely sights along the way.

A quick note if you’re planning a visit: starting Saturday, October 31, the Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area Visitor Center moves to winter hours, Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Save this for your next day out, and make it a little getaway with a stay here in McConnelsville.

I found a note today in the guest book in the Maria Suite from a business traveler, and it made me smile.

Our business guests are usually busy with work and on to the next thing, so it felt extra special that this guest took a moment to write.

Dan and I have both lived that life. We know how good it feels to come back after a long workday to a place where you can settle in, exhale, and feel at home. That’s what we hope the Maria Suite can be for our guests.

The deep window sills throughout Stone House are one of my many favorite things about the house. The library, holds most of my pottery collection, including these green Shawnee Turkey Vases my mom recently gave me.

I took the vases, some dried sprigs from Miss Tilly, and a few real turkey feathers that were gifted to me to our favorite local florist, Dori. She added flowers from her shop and created the whole arrangement to reflect Stone House. I love how they came together.

The library is a shared space, but it still feels like a quiet little corner of the house—a place to settle in, visit awhile, or just enjoy a peaceful moment.

The kids have their own plans this Thanksgiving. Maybe yours can be a little quieter—and a little more special.

Spend two nights at The Inns at 8th & Main, share Thanksgiving dinner with Amy and Dan, then wake up to a slow morning: breakfast at the Inn and a peaceful walk along the river.

We’re moving right along tonight! Our son Zack absolutely loved Tonka trucks and digging holes when he was little, so it feels fitting that he made quick work of these dying arborvitaes with his grown-up Tonka toy. 🚜

Now it’s time to clean things up and get ready for new fencing!

We’re delighted to see McConnelsville featured as a fall getaway in Only In Your State—and especially happy to see so many of our local businesses included.
