To friends, family, guests, and returning guests who have become friends: After over 24 years, I have sold Oaklawn. Oaklawn has been my home, my retreat, my albatross, my fortress, my sactuary, my farm, my baby. She's been a labor of love and a place that felt like home to many that came to sit on my porch or share a cup of tea or glass of wine. Countless hours were spent with guests around the breakfast table. I will never forget the parties, gatherings, and wonderful annual Christmas merriment. I can also remember the early days of wall paper steaming, paint stripping, salvaging, dumpster diving and planting of flower gardens. Oh, and shoveling! Selling Oaklawn is like putting one's child up for adoption. I wish the new owner, who was a past guest at Oaklawn, all the best.
I look forward to reconnecting with friends and family. Traveling. Exploring what other mischief I might get in to. One day at a time. Please keep in touch.
Sharing my prayer for all of us that 2022 will be a year of good health, gratitude, and continuing to reach out to hold hands and support each other. Be well.

The summer brought a new coat of paint, actually 4 colors, to highlight the beauty and details of this grand old house. The big screen porch also had a makeover. Fresh paint and the floor sanded and oiled. New porch furniture is difficult to resist. There's not a prettier place to relax and enjoy the warm breezes or the frogs singing in the pond.

What a nice evening at the Mabel Tainter for the Menomonie Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. Thank you Chamber staff for coordinating, Ted's for the pizza and Andrew for providing a tour of the Mabel. It was a pleasure for Oaklawn Inn to be a part of tonight's gathering.

I know that folks wonder about who my guests are and what brings them to Menomonie. I had the pleasure of hosting Kelsey Litterer and hearing some of her story over morning coffee. She is from Iowa and came with Rusty to work with a coach at the Hollow Creek Farm to hone her eventing skills. She will be back to Menomonie in September to compete at Otter Creek Farm in Wheeler.

It may be an invasive species, but I can't help but admire its perseverance. Found this growing near the garage door. A day in the yard at Oaklawn Inn. Guests arriving tomorrow. Want to show off summer's best. Bed and breakfasts do have that advantage.
