Wow, what a storm! All the rain has told me EXACTLY where to use the truckloads of soil I'll be bringing in for grading. It's also brought us a bird that has never done more than fly over before. Didn't scare off the crew--look at the amazing tilework done today!

The latest installment of "Crappy photos of great birds" brings the fourth Golden-winged Warbler recorded at Blue Bunting Lodge. Other migrants today included a smorgasbord of Gray-cheeked and Swainson's Thrushes, Red-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos, Acadian, Least, Brown-crested and Great Crested Flycatchers, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Ovenbird, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, Blue-winged, Wilson's, Tennessee and Chestnut-sided Warblers, with a Chuck-Will's-Widow for dessert.

The birds are just as busy with construction as we are! Yesterday, this Lark Sparrow was collecting soft nest-lining materials, and showed me where the nest was, high in an Anacua. Female Blue Grosbeak has returned this week, hot on the heels of the male last week. They've been house hunting around the back field, and will hopefully nest again this year.
