Breaking news

Laurel Caverns is now considered Pennsylvania's first underground state park, Governor Josh Shapiro announcing its official opening on Monday.

he was joined by Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn, who also announced the opening of Laurel Caverns State Park with local leaders in Fayette County.

The scaffolding is finally down around Fallingwater after the completion of a three-year preservation project for Frank Lloyd Wright’s organic architectural masterpiece.

The home built for department store magnate Edgar J. Kaufmann and his wife, Liliane, will open for regular tours on Saturday, kicking off a flurry of events celebrating Fallingwater’s 90th anniversary.

It’s also a milestone year for other Wright homes in the Laurel Highlands, which offer an unusual concentration of his work available to the public.

Our great town of Ohiopyle.

Ohiopyle holds steady attention because it sits at the intersection of landscape and purpose.

This is a town that formed around water, elevation, and movement. The Youghiogheny River shaped everything here, from early industry to modern outdoor recreation. Whitewater, trails, waterfalls, and rail corridors all converge in a way that feels natural rather than manufactured. The town exists because the geography demanded it.
What makes Ohiopyle stand out is how tightly it stayed aligned with its setting. Development never overpowered the park. The river remained the centerpiece.

The town functions as a gateway rather than a distraction. It became one of Pennsylvania’s most recognizable outdoor destinations by letting the environment lead and keeping the human footprint respectful. Ohiopyle proves that some towns succeed not by expanding outward, but by fitting precisely where they belong.
