Some things change.

Some things just keep telling their story.

This photograph, believed to have been taken around 1950–1951, captures the east side of the Crazy Water Hotel during a much busier day on Oak Street.

Look closely and you’ll spot a few familiar names from Mineral Wells history.

The neon Crazy Hotel sign stretched out over the sidewalk, pointing visitors toward the hotel and coffee shop below. We can only wonder what colors glowed from that sign at night—or whether the arrow flashed and moved to catch the attention of passing travelers.

Next door was the Hotel Drug Store, a Rexall‑branded pharmacy and soda fountain just off the Crazy’s lobby. Another hotel drug store served guests at the Baker Hotel across downtown.

You’ll also notice The Tiny Toggery, a beloved downtown business that sold children’s clothing and gifts. Decades later, that same storefront would continue serving families and visitors through shops like Toytopia, The Perfect Pair, Sensology, Rickhouse Brewing, La Reina and Crazy Water Coffee & Water Bar.

And what was happening on the street?
The line of cars, spectators and flags suggests a parade or community celebration making its way through downtown Mineral Wells. While the exact occasion remains a mystery, the photograph captures something timeless—a community gathering together along Oak Street.

Today, many of the signs have changed, much of the original neon is gone or transformed and the cars look a little different.

But the buildings remain.

The same brick walls.

The same storefronts.

The same street that has connected generations of Mineral Wells residents and visitors.

Swipe to see Oak Street then and now.

Fun Fact: The Gulf station visible in the distance of the historic photo is still standing today, even though the iconic Gulf sign disappeared long ago.

Do you recognize anything else in this photograph or know what parade was taking place?

We’d love to hear the story.

This past weekend, The Crazy Water Hotel had the honor of welcoming the 63rd Model A Ford Texas Tour to Mineral Wells—and what many may not know is that the very first tour was held right here in Mineral Wells.

Looking at these photos, it’s hard not to pause for a moment.

In the historic image, automobiles line the streets beneath the Crazy Water Hotel during Mineral Wells’ heyday as one of Texas’ premier destination towns. Nearly a century later, those same Model A Fords returned to the very place where the tradition began, parked once again in front of the hotel.

History doesn’t just repeat itself—it visits.

For generations, travelers have come to Mineral Wells seeking adventure, fellowship, and a place to rest. This weekend was a beautiful reminder that while the faces and years may change, the spirit of this town endures.

To host the 63rd tour in the same community that welcomed the first is something truly special. Seeing these remarkable automobiles lined up outside the hotel felt less like a car show and more like stepping into a living photograph.

Thank you to the Model A Ford Texas Tour participants for bringing history back to life and allowing us to be part of the journey.

Some traditions are worth preserving.

And some places are fortunate enough to witness them come full circle.

Last Night, a glass was raised to Tommy Alverson—a Texas music legend whose impact is still felt every time friends gather, a song is played, or a dance floor fills.

At Rickhouse Brewery inside The Crazy Water Hotel, Wild A$$ Wednesday was more than just an event. It was something Tommy built—a place where music, friendship, storytelling and community came together. While Tommy may no longer be with us, the tradition continues, and last night was a beautiful reminder of that.

Some of Texas Country’s finest showed up to honor him, remember him and toast the man who meant so much to so many. Throughout the evening, there were smiles, stories, dancing, hugs, laughter and all the things that happen when people gather to celebrate a life well lived.

What makes Wild A$$ Wednesday special isn’t just the music. It’s the community. It’s the familiar faces. It’s the feeling that everyone belongs. Every Wednesday, you’ll find a little bit of Tommy there—in the songs being sung, the friends reconnecting and the memories being shared.

The torch has been passed, but the spirit remains.

Here’s to Tommy. Here’s to the music. Here’s to the friendships. And here’s to the community that continues to gather in his honor.

Cheers, Tommy. We know you’d be smiling.
