CineUP!!

Recently CineMechanics had the privilege of hosting a sold-out Masterclass with legendary cinematographer Dean Cundey, ASC. A rare chance to learn directly from someone who’s shaped so much of what we all love about film.

Over 70 filmmakers filled the room, from students to seasoned producers, directors, writers, and cinematographers. Notebooks were out. Questions were answered. And Dean showed up ready to give back to the craft he’s given so much to.

From Halloween to Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and Escape from New York he broke down scenes and discussed camera movement, composition, screen direction, and the decisions that make a scene right for the story.

It was real-world experience: how scenes come together, how teams collaborate, and why the details matter.

We’re grateful for Dean’s willingness to share, teach, and give back to the filmmaking community.

NOW AVAILABLE — TLS Rehoused Zeiss Super Speed lenses ⚡️

Our Super Speeds have a new life.

Rehoused by True Lens Services, this set keeps everything cinematographers love about the originals—while fixing everything that used to slow you down on set.

What’s better:
• Solid, modern housing built for real production use
• Smooth, consistent focus/iris mechanics
• Clear witness marks you can actually trust
• Non-telescoping barrels (matte box + motors play nice)
• Built to handle today’s builds without fighting you

What hasn’t changed (and why you want them):
These are still the same legendary Super Speeds—fast, character-rich, and beautifully imperfect in all the right ways.

Wide open at T1.3: soft, organic, cinematic falloff
Stopped down: sharp with that unmistakable Zeiss contrast and separation

These lenses helped define the look of films like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Back to the Future, and Pulp Fiction and they still hold up.

And right now, they’re more relevant than ever.

With the rise (and dominance) of cameras like the ARRI ALEXA 35, Super 35 is back in a big way. These lenses were made for that format and they pair perfectly with the ALEXA 35’s sensor, giving you a look that cuts through the clinical feel of modern digital.

Vintage character. Modern reliability.
No compromises.

NEW: The Cine-Servo 15-120mm is a highly versatile and lightweight handheld zoom lens, well-suited to anything from live events and documentaries to narrative film and TV. It features a detachable servo drive unit as well as a built-in 1.5x extender, which converts the lens’ focal length to a 22.5-180mm equivalent. This lens was designed to cover Super 35 sensors, but with the 1.5x extender enabled it will cover Full Frame as well.

The Cine-Servo remains quite sharp even at its maximum focal length, as this lens was designed with up to 8K shooting in mind. This lens also has built-in Cooke /i contacts for passing metadata, and the servo drive can be easily controlled via third-party controls.
