The Sand Flats Recreation Area (SFRA) near Moab, Utah is a nationally significant public lands treasure at the heart of the Colorado Plateau. A high plain of slickrock domes, bowls and fins, it rises in the east to meet the colorful mesas and nearly 13,000 foot peaks of the La Sal Mountains. Bordering the area on the north and south are the canyons of the Grandstaff Canyon and Mill Creek Wilderness Study Areas. Further north lies the deep gorge of the Colorado River and Arches National Park.

Attention: There have been bear sightings on the Slickrock Bike Trail, Hell's Revenge 4x4 trail and in Mill Creek this week. Recently Utah DNR captured and relocated bears that have come into Moab. Bears are coming down from the mountains because late spring frosts and the drought have reduced their food supplies. Due to expected thunderstorms and cloudy weather the night sky program scheduled for 9 pm tonight has been canceled. We will post when we reschedule. FYI: Dead Horse Point and Raptor State Parks have regular night sky programs each week.

Attention: The Hell's Revenge and Slickrock parking lots will be crack sealed, seal coated and striped starting on Monday, July 20th and ending on or before the 24th. The trash dumpster at the Slickrock parking lot will be relocated to the Fins and Things parking lot from July 17th to July 24th.

This work will occur in two phases so that one side of each parking lot remains open, ensuring trailheads are accessible.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in place. Fires are not permitted in the campgrounds. Prohibited Acts:
1. All open fires of any kind.
2. Smoking except within a vehicle or enclosed area.
3. Grinding, cutting, and welding of metal.
4. Operating or using any internal combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed and in effective working order per Title 43 CFR § 8343.1.
Integration of Prior Orders: This order incorporates and supplements the prohibited acts set forth in Fire Prevention Order Number UT-914-25-001.
1. The use/discharge of explosives of any kind, incendiary or chemical devices, pyrotechnic devices, exploding targets, pressurized containers or canisters, and binary explosives.
2. The use/discharge of any kind of fireworks as defined by this order.
