Running a small business is really hard!!What they don't tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people. People will talk s**t about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.
Everyone will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big national chain stores.
You have to worry about if you forget to email someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can't get to everyone's messages and emails in a timely manner.
Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail in divorce because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the driver, the administrator, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner, the fix everything person .... All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, single father or single mother, family supporter and friend.
There's a reason you don't see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. If they are successful, they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It's freaking exhausting working 12-18 hours a day, 7 days a week. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.
Here's a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support one another.
A SMALL BUSINESS CAN’T COMPETE WITH A CORPORATE GIANT !! So support small businesses. Pay a little extra for their services or goods to keep them open. And most importantly, don’t leave them negative reviews. While you are comfortable working for someone else getting a paycheck, the small business owners probably aren’t getting one to ensure the business pays all their bills. Usually at the end of the month, there isn’t any money left for the owners. 98% of people don’t have the mental capacity to open a small business. Don’t make it hard for the 2% that do.
