MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (KCRG) - Christmas lights stretch for two miles in Our Town Mount Pleasant. It’s a holiday tradition known as Festival of Lights.

“We have a lot of cars that go through. Last year it was almost 4-4500 in cars,” said Terry McWilliams, CEO of Midwest Old Threshers.

For some, the annual event is a family tradition.

“Since 2019. That was our first year, my oldest daughter was born and we thought it would make a fun tradition,” said Sam Brookhart.

“Every year we rotate out about 50% of the displays that we lease from our company that we’re in business with to do this and so we get some new displays every year to keep it fresh for folks,” McWilliams said.

Money paid to get in, along with support from sponsors, volunteers and community support has kept the Festival of Lights shining bright for more than a decade.

“I like the Christmas tradition. Doing something with your family and doing it every year I think that’s something that we’ve kind of missed out on as we’ve gotten older,” Brookhart said.

This year there is access to more electricity, bringing even more displays.

“This is the 13th year for the Mount Pleasant Festival of Lights. We started off pretty small and now we’ve grown to two miles and 186 light displays,” McWilliams said.

More information, including admission prices, can be found on the Midwest Old Threshers website.
