Local Spotlight: Mike's Music & Dance Barn

Pull on your boots and head out State Road 46 to Mike's Music & Dance Barn, about 4 miles from the Village of Nashville. Mike Robertson and his family built the barn by hand in 1997, and he still plays his sax on stage!

Monday is line dancing night with Billy and Carla Crase. Doors open at 6, dancing starts at 6:30, and it's $10 for all ages. No partner or experience needed..... beginners are welcome. Friday and Saturday nights bring live bands, homemade food and a full bar.

Afterward, head back to the 1891 Schoolhouse Inn to sit by the fire and soak in the hot tub, or stay closer at Helmsburg Homestead.

Hours can change around holidays, so call 812-988-8636 before you go.

Mornings at the 1891 Schoolhouse Inn start with coffee on the back deck under the big trees. Evenings end around the fire pit, then in the four-person hot tub. Stay in Class!

October is a wonderful month to hike in Brown County!

I put together a list of 12 places to walk and hike, sorted by how far each one is from the 1891 Schoolhouse Inn. Trevlac Bluffs Nature Preserve, with its rare hemlocks, is just 5 miles away, and Brown County State Park is an easy 12-mile drive. Pick a short stroll or a full day on the trail, then come back to the four-person hot tub and a fire in the fireplace.....

Kickoff in Bloomington, quiet in the country.....the 1891 Schoolhouse Inn is open October 30 and 31!

IU plays Minnesota at home on Halloween, and the Schoolhouse is an easy drive to Bloomington. Spend the day at the game or out in the late color, then come back to the four-person hot tub, the fire pit and a cozy fireplace. Sleeps 4, and your dog is welcome too!
