COME TASTE MY FAMILY TRADITION!

Know that every bite of My Buttermilk SLAP Biscuits is a taste full of family tradition of love, laughter, togetherness—okay, yeah, a bit of rumble—and a sprinkle of a dream that began in the humble kitchen of HospiTalent Mariby Corpening.

Growing up in Newark NJ, I witnessed the soul of biscuit-making from my grandmother—a domestic maid, whose hard-working hands served and fed, as well, our family—mixed some flour, sour milk, and in that day, lard into a mouth full of some homemade love at every Sunday breakfast, along with tales of family, fun times, great memories, lots of laughter and for me, so much joy. Why, I imagine, I just love me some home-made bread, served hot from the oven—conjures up so many warm and beautiful feelings.

WOW and 50 years later, quite unexpectedly, here I am, owner, operator, chief SLAP biscuit maker at my very own Bed & Breakfast, least to say, At National Harbor! And I’ve ceremoniously crafted my own twist—a biscuit so soft, so fluffy, so rich with a buttery-crispness that a guest once said, “These biscuits are so good, umma bout to SLAP somebody;” hence, the name of my now infamous Buttermilk SLAP Biscuits!

Truly, what makes them special? I believe, merely that I take the time to make them...from scratch. Each pan of my biscuits is lovingly—and I do mean, every time—baked to a golden ooom, ooom goodness and infused with Mariby’s secret ingredient: A passion for making your being go, “Ooooooom!” Whether you enjoy my SLAP biscuits with a dollop of my fresh-made strawberry jam, a drizzle of Grannie’s raw honey or her favored Black Strap Molasses, my Buttermilk SLAP Biscuits, always served hot out of the oven, transform any meal into a celebration—of family love and togetherness.
