What’s your trick for getting water to boil faster outside: lid always on, wind shield, or a smaller pot?
Here’s what usually slows you down at camp: heat loss. Wind steals heat from the flame and pot walls, and evaporation pulls energy right off the top.
Try this quick “boil faster” checklist:
- Lid on until it boils (even foil or a second pan helps). Crack it at the end to prevent boil-over.
- Block the breeze: a simple windscreen or natural windbreak often makes the biggest difference.
- Match pot to burner: too small wastes flame up the sides; too big heats extra metal.
- Bonus: measure only the water you need and avoid lifting the lid “just to check.”
Safety note: if you’re using a canister stove, don’t fully enclose the fuel canister with a windscreen—leave airflow and keep things stable.
