It's moments like these that remind us why we love Alaska so much. Sometimes the most unforgettable experiences aren't planned. They're simply waiting right outside your door.

🐻🏆 AND WE HAVE A WINNER!!! 🏆🐻

The votes are in, the salmon have been eaten, and we officially have a 2026 FAT BEAR WEEK CHAMPION!

🏆🎒 89 BACKPACK!!! 🎒🏆
Backpack defeated 910 in yesterday’s championship and has officially claimed the Fat Bear Week crown! 👑

And to all of our Cook Inlet Cabins Bucky fans who are still recovering from Monday’s heartbreak… 😂😭

We suppose there’s some consolation in knowing that Bucky was knocked out by the bear who went on to WIN THE WHOLE THING! 🐻🏆

We have had SO much fun following Fat Bear Week with you this year, from picking favorites and watching brackets get busted to discovering that some of you have very strong opinions about bears. 😂❤️

Well…we have some bad news for the Cook Inlet Cabins crowd this morning. 😂😭

BUCKY IS OUT!

After being the clear favorite among our voters yesterday—and leading for much of the day—Bucky was edged out by Backpack in an incredibly close semifinal.

And that means we officially have our 2026 FAT BEAR WEEK CHAMPIONSHIP:

🐻 FAT BEAR FRIDAY: MEET GULLY!

We've spent this week voting for our favorite fat bears, but today we're taking a break from the competition to introduce you to one of this year's characters: 903 Gully.

And yes...there's a reason he's called Gully. 😂

When Gully was younger, he apparently decided salmon weren't the ONLY thing on the menu. He became known for charging into groups of gulls and actually catching and eating them. 🐦😳🐻

These days, Gully has grown big enough to compete for some of the prime fishing spots at Brooks Falls. This means he may not have to work quite so hard for those feathered snacks anymore. 😂

And all that eating has a very important purpose. Brown bears can lose up to one-third of their body weight during hibernation, so packing on the pounds before winter is literally a matter of survival. ❤️🐻
Fat bears are successful bears!

🐻👑 FAT BEAR FACE-OFF: THE CHAMP IS BACK!

Day 2 of Fat Bear Week is here, and Cook Inlet Cabins has another BIG matchup for you!

👑 32 Chunk vs. 164 Bucky 💪

32 Chunk is the defending Fat Bear Week champion! He's one of the largest bears at Brooks River and is easily recognizable by the scar on his muzzle and a protruding canine tooth from a broken jaw he suffered in 2025. After overcoming that injury and winning last year's competition, Chunk is back to defend his title. 🏆
But he's got some serious competition...

164 Bucky is estimated to be only about 9 years old, and he's already becoming one of Brooks River's increasingly dominant males. And since male brown bears generally don't reach their peak size and strength until they're around 12–20 years old, Bucky may still have some growing to do! 😳🐻

🐻🗳️ IT'S OFFICIAL—FAT BEAR WEEK VOTING STARTS TODAY!

The bears are fat. The bracket is set. And Cook Inlet Cabins is READY! 😂

Today kicks off Fat Bear Week 2026, and we're starting with a Cook Inlet Cabins face-off:
🐻 909 vs. 428 “Studious” 🐻

909 is the daughter of former Fat Bear Week champion 409 Beadnose. She began this summer with two cubs, and although she lost both during the season, she continued doing what Alaska's brown bears do best: fishing, surviving, and preparing for winter.

🤓 428 Studious is the daughter of another former Fat Bear Week champion, 128 Grazer. Bearcam viewers nicknamed her Studious because she paid such close attention while learning to fish alongside her mom. Apparently all that studying has paid off. Just LOOK at that before and after! 😂

🐻 IT'S ALMOST FAT BEAR WEEK! 🐻

Around here, we love just about everything Alaska, the mountains, wildlife, salmon, and, of course… the BEARS!

So Cook Inlet Cabins is joining in the fun for Fat Bear Week 2026!
If you've never heard of Fat Bear Week, you're in for a treat. Every fall, Katmai National Park & Preserve celebrates its incredible brown bears and the hard work they've done all summer packing on the pounds for winter. The bears go head-to-head in a bracket, and WE get to vote! 🐻🏆

Official voting begins September 22, and we've decided we're going to follow along right here at Cook Inlet Cabins!

We'll meet some of this year's contenders, pick our favorites, share the official matchups, and we want YOU to help us choose who Cook Inlet Cabins is rooting for!

And considering we have a cabin called The Brown Bear, we feel like participating is practically mandatory. 😂🐻

❤️ What a first season.

As the sun begins to set on our first season at Cook Inlet Cabins, we can’t help but look back with so much gratitude.

This summer brought more than we ever could have hoped for. It was full of beautiful days, incredible Alaska views, and, most importantly, so many smiling faces and wonderful guests. We’ve loved meeting each of you, hearing about your adventures, and getting to share this little piece of Alaska with you.

To everyone who chose to stay with us this year: thank you. Thank you for supporting our first season, for the kind words and conversations, and for making Cook Inlet Cabins part of your Alaska memories. You made this season incredibly special for us. ❤️

We still have a couple of weeks left before we close the cabins for winter, so there’s still time for one last Alaska getaway. And then, we’ll be counting down the days until we open our doors again next May.

Here’s to an amazing first season—and to all the adventures still to come. We hope we’ll see many of your familiar faces again next year.
