Not everyone in your group may want to play a full round of golf, and that's exactly what Garden Park is for. It's part golf course, part frisbee golf, part foot golf. Low pressure and all in less time than a tee time.

It's become a favorite for families with a mix of ages and groups where some have never held a golf club. Nobody's keeping real score.

Once the school buses start running, weekends get harder to plan. That's exactly why we love hosting families in September. The pools are open, the lawn games are still out, and the fire pits light up every evening for the last of the s'mores season.

It's a smaller crowd, an easier pace, and one of our favorite windows for family time at the Lodge. Grab a weekend before the calendar fills back up with practices and permission slips.

The water's still warm enough for a paddle, but the season's starting to turn, which makes September one of the best windows for the lake before the docks come in for the year. Kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes are all still out and ready whenever you want them.

Families tell us this is their favorite version of lake time. Fewer boats out, calmer water, and none of the July crowds to navigate around. If you've been meaning to get the kids out on the water one more time before fall fully sets in, don't wait too long.

Fair warning: the tennis courts get competitive fast, no matter how casual everyone claims to keep it.

We've got courts for tennis and pickleball, open all day, and we've watched more than one family feud get settled out there. Grab a raquet and see who in your group is as good as they say.

A small end-of-day ritual for anyone spending as much time on the water as we hope you are this month: rinse off the lake, apply something cool and hydrating while your skin is still sun-warmed, and give yourself 10 quiet minutes before dinner. That's really it.

Simple, and it makes a real difference by the end of a long weekend on the water. The Spa at Grand View carries a few products we love. Ask any of our estheticians next time you're in.

Every family that comes through here seems to have one thing they do every single year, without fail.

A Friday fish fry, a card game that runs too late, or the same dock spot for photos every August. We're curious what yours is.

We keep a fleet of bikes at the ready, including kids' bikes and Burley trailers for the ones too small to pedal themselves, and they're complimentary for anyone staying with us.

The Paul Bunyan State Trail runs right past the property, more than a hundred miles of paved path if you're ambitious, or just far enough into Nisswa and back. Either way, it's one of the easiest ways to see more of the area than the view from your porch.

Grab a bike from the activities desk and go.

On the Rocks might have the best seat on the property: a patio that puts you right at the water's edge for dinner.

It's casual, outside and the kind of place you sit down for one drink and stay for three courses because the view won't let you leave.

Two things stick around for the summer: our food truck and The Chocolate Ox.

Between the two, you can cover an entire kid-approved dinner-and-dessert night without ever getting in the car. Grab a snack from the truck, a scoop after and be done by dark.

If you've got little ones with you this month, this is the easy win. Both are open now through the end of the season.
