Housekeeper duties and responsibilities:
The main function of our Housekeeping staff is to perform cleaning duties to keep the hotel neat and welcoming for our guests. They maintain cleanliness in line with management and Choice Hotel brand requirements. Other than ensuring clean and comfortable surroundings, Housekeepers also replenish toiletries, clean and store housekeeping equipment. Weekends and holidays are required for this position.
Our housekeeping staff have the following responsibilities:
Meet high standards of cleanliness in guest rooms, conference room and all public areas of the hotel.
Understand our organization’s policies on our guest’s possessions and privacy.
Provide basic housekeeping duties including but not limited to changing linens, making beds, cleaning guest/public restrooms, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping, removing garbage, restocking guest supplies such as coffee, cups, toiletries, etc.
Report and return any guest property found in the rooms while rendering service after a guest has checked out.
Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Keep the inside and outside of the hotel clean, tidy and welcoming to our guests.
Keep housekeeping carts neat and properly stocked. Use of a variety of cleaning agents is critical for maintaining the safety and sanitary standards of our organization.
Comply with management and Choice Hotel brand requirements, including but not limited to safety, hygiene and time management.
Housekeeper skills and qualifications
A successful Housekeeper will have various prerequisite skills and qualifications, including:
Hygiene: Basic knowledge of sanitary personal hygiene. Staff must report to work looking neat and presentable in clean uniforms.
Chemicals/Appliances: Working knowledge of cleaning appliances, such as vacuums, and their operations. Knowledge of the proper use of cleaning agents is ideal. Understanding the importance of not mixing cleaning agents (chemicals) for personal safety is top priority. Different situations require different cleaning agents to prevent stains and clean effectively. We will train candidates how to properly use our equipment and cleaning supplies.
Detail Oriented: A successful Housekeeper will have a heightened level of awareness and attention to detail. This skill is important so they can thoroughly clean in places that hold dust, dirt and other grime. Another attribute of a great Housekeeper is uniformity. They can recreate the same settings with little or no supervision.
Physical strength and stamina: Housekeeping requires a certain level of physical strength. The ideal candidate must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and be on their feet for extended periods. They may also have to lift heavy items and use the stairs during shifts.
Time Management: An experienced Housekeeper is adept at time management; they must meet time and cleanliness requirements while performing room services and must also be able to work under pressure. We understand while training you may not meet the time limits; however, our veteran housekeepers are required to clean checked out rooms within a 30-minute time frame.
Housekeeping Training & Job Requirements
Must be open to receive training. We provide on-the-job training for our employees.
Relevant experience preferred but not required in the housekeeping, custodial, janitorial, and customer service industries.
Must be comfortable using cleaning equipment and chemicals.
Must be available to work mornings into afternoon and must be available on weekends and holidays.
