The story behind The Villafan Suite. 🤍
As we approach José Luis Villafan’s second birthday since his passing, I’ve been thinking even more than usual about my friend and the way he lived his life.
José unexpectedly passed away at only 42 years old.
He was one of my best friends, a guy’s guy, the life of the party, and one of those rare people whose presence filled a room. He had an incredible appetite for life. Adventure, friends, laughter, celebrations—José was always ready.
His go-to phrase said everything about him:
“F**k it, I’m in.”
That was José.
His passing still haunts me. There are losses that divide your life into before and after, and losing him was one of those for me.
But when I think about him, there is one thing that gives me peace: he lived.
He didn’t spend his life waiting for the perfect moment. He made memories. He showed up. He laughed. He celebrated. He loved his people. He squeezed an incredible amount of life into 42 years.
When it came time to name the groom suite at Mabelle Estates, there was only one name that felt right.
The Villafan Suite.
I dedicate it to José because I know exactly what he would have done here. He would have poured a drink, turned up the music, made everyone laugh, and celebrated right alongside every groom and every couple who walked through these doors.
I can picture him here so clearly.
And in some small way, that means a piece of him gets to remain part of this place—part of the laughter, the friendships, the celebrations, the ridiculous stories, the nervous moments before walking down the aisle, and some of the happiest days of people’s lives.
There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of him.
Mabelle Estates will always carry his name.
The Villafan Suite — in loving memory of José Luis Villafan.
Happy heavenly birthday, my friend.
“F**k it, I’m in.” Forever. 🤍
