Tranquil. Restorative. Soul-soothing.
I got a little break this weekend, enough time to squeeze in a quick walk. Without even thinking about it, I headed off towards Perkins Cove. I took what our family calls “the back way,” down a couple of side streets that bring you to one of my favorite access paths to the Marginal Way, just above the Cove.
Spring, summer or fall, I love this path. Quiet and peaceful. I love how it feels a little bit hidden and mysterious under the stately trees that line either side. The path curves gently down toward the water until it opens up to Oarweed Cove, with Perkins Cove to the right and the Marginal Way to the left before it winds its way along the rocks.
Sometimes when I walk down here, I can hear the happy sounds of laughter from people walking on the Marginal Way, or music from the summertime concerts in the cove. This time, I mostly heard the sounds of nature - the birds singing and the waves crashing on the rocks. Exactly the reminder I needed to slow down for a minute, take a deep breath and appreciate everything around me in this beautiful place.
