Today, National Geographic revealed its BEST OF THE WORLD 2027, the renowned annual list of 25 must-visit destinations and travel experiences that deserve a place on travelers’ calendars in the year ahead. The prestigious publication selected Madison as one of those destinations, alongside places in Egypt, Norway, Japan, Peru, Malawi and more. National Geographic specifically called out Madison’s lakes, bike paths, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, the Dane County Farmers Market, the new Madison Public Market and several restaurants, bars, music venues and other beloved local gems that position Madison as “The Midwest’s most effortless getaway [combining] lakefront adventure, local flavor, and creative cultural spaces.”
“This recognition reflects the things we love about Madison – our farm to table cuisine; our abundance of arts and culture; our accessible lakes and public parks; our walkable streets and ample public transportation; and so much more. Visitors to Madison can experience our community’s values in an authentic and memorable way,” said Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. “We are thankful National Geographic recognizes that in Madison and is sharing how special we are with the world.”
Being selected for the BEST OF THE WORLD 2027 means more people will find Madison and our stories for the first time, adding to the 9.65 million visitors we receive annually and boosting the $1.6 billion in annual direct tourism economic impact for Madison and Dane County.
