🌴 A Palm Springs icon with a story to tell.
Before it became The Twist, the property was known as the Sunset Tower Apartment Hotel, built in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Its history is tied to the golden age of Palm Springs, when Hollywood stars, high-stakes gamblers, and some of the desert’s most colorful characters made this neighborhood their playground. ✨ (The Twist Palm Springs)
Over the years, Sunset Tower welcomed notable residents and visitors, including Zeppo Marx, former Palm Springs mayor George Beebee, and El Mirador owner Ray Ryan. Right out front sat the legendary Don the Beachcomber, a tiki hotspot frequented by Hollywood’s elite. There’s even a rumored old escape passage beneath the property, said to have been used by gamblers looking for a quick getaway. 🎲🍸 (The Twist Palm Springs)
Decades later, the property was brought back to life as The Twist Palm Springs, preserving its mid-century roots while adding the bold colors, playful design, and modern Palm Springs energy you see today. 🌴🧡
A little Old Hollywood, a little mystery, and a whole lot of Palm Springs history — The Twist has always had a story.
