UPDATE: SS United States will be towed out to the sinking location on November 9.
According to the county’s announcement, the SS United States will be towed from Mobile, Alabama, to a designated location approximately 22 nautical miles southwest of Destin-Fort Walton Beach.
Deployment operations are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on November 12.

While this transition is difficult for many of us, we know that some wish to witness this pivotal moment in the SS United States' history as the Conservancy advances plans for a museum to celebrate America's Flagship.
Okaloosa County will commemorate this occasion by hosting a public sendoff ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center.
Later that afternoon on November 11th, the Conservancy will be convening a special program exploring the ship's storied history and our museum vision and plans. We will share the event location in Destin, FL next week.
The ship's deployment will also be available to watch via livestream. The livestream will be shared on thessus.com pre-deployment.'
