On a walk with the dogs Sunday morning on one of our mowed trails. We have about a mile of walking/running trails carved out of the pasture and the woods at Walnut Hill Farm. The wild black-eyed Susans are blooming, adding a splash of yellow in the pasture. At 10 o'clock this morning, the heat was already pretty intense. Heat indexes are slated to be in the 105F to 110F range through Thursday evening. Can't wait. Stay cool, my friends, stay cool!

Early May and many of our favorite flowers are in full bloom. A patch of violet-colored Dame's rockets by the roadside is always a favorite. So are the irises and the columbine. The columbine will continue to bloom through much of the summer until the freeze in the fall.

The fall leaves are at their peak in Walnut Hill Farm country this week. The weather remains perfect for getting out to roam the countryside on foot or by vehicle. It's a great time to visit the Marais des Cygne National Wildlife Refuge and a host of historical sites around our area. Make Walnut Hill Farm a base for your fall jaunts.
