Stephen Leslie Baer, affectionately known as Steve, passed away on June 7, 2026, in Parsons, Kansas, at the age of 79. Born on June 5, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, Steve lived a life marked by dedication, loyalty, and love. No Services are planned at this time. Private burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Military Honors given by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard.
A proud veteran, Steve devoted 26 years of service to the United States Air Force, including a memorable 37-month deployment in Southeast Asia, where he served in Vietnam and Thailand. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and his stories of those years reflected both the challenges and camaraderie of military life.
Outside of his military career, Steve cherished moments spent on the golf course and treasured time with family and friends. His membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.), where he served as Vice Commander, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (ELKs) were testaments to his community spirit and love for fellowship.
Steve was a devoted father who instilled pride and values in his children, ensuring they always knew how proud he was of them. His loyalty and loving nature were evident in every aspect of his life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lola Baer; his parents, William D. and Leola M. Baer; and his son, Timothy A. Baer. Also preceding him in death are his brothers, Frank A. Baer and William D. Baer Jr.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Baer (Brian) of Portland, Oregon; his son, Mark Baer (Kimberly) of Molalla, Oregon; and step-daughter Jackie Thies (Jan) of Quarryville, PA. He also leaves behind two stepsons, Michael Bendixen (Lisa) of Casper, WY, and Raymond Carl Bindixen (Robin) of Parsons. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
A private family burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, where Steve will be laid to rest beside his loved ones.
Steve's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the stories shared by his family, friends, and fellow servicemen and women. His unwavering devotion to his family and country serves as a lasting inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
