Has the Rent Stabilization Department (RSD) helped you in the past two years?

We need tenants to speak out on Monday to tell the City Council how the RSD has helped you. YOUR STORY IS POWERFUL!

When the RSD was formed two years ago the ordinance included a two year review to see if the city would continue with the department.

We’re now at that two year mark!

🚨 IMPORTANT NEWS FOR PASADENA TENANTS 🚨

The new Annual General Adjustment for rent stabilized units goes into effect on October 1. The new MAX RENT INCREASE is 2.25%.

Take your current rent, multiple by 0.0225 and that is the MOST your rent can increase if you live in a covered unit.

Additionally, your landlord can only raise the rent ONCE in any 12 month period and must provide a 30-day advance written notice of the rent increase.

The notice must state the existence of Article XVIII (the law that provides rent control and eviction protections) and of your right to petition against any rent increase over the max allowable this year (2.25%).

PTU Community Meeting on August 28th at 7pm!
Flintridge Center, Room 117
236 W Mountain Street, Pasadena

Tenants and advocates are welcome.
NO LANDLORDS. NO COPS. NO ELECTED OFFICIALS. NO REPORTERS (who are reporting).
Spanish/English interpretation will be available.

Join your fellow tenants and see what your community is up to. We will start off with some community announcements and then anyone looking for community support can talk about their current situation. We are not lawyers and cannot give you legal advice, but the more we talk to our neighbors the stronger we are 💪

While in the meeting be sure to ask for a membership form. Anyone who shows up for the community is part of the community, but signing up for membership allows you to participate in voting and discussions about how union funds are spent. So sign up!

Snacks to share are welcome but not required :)

At this meeting and at all meetings we require attendees who are able to wear an N95 mask. There will be masks available at the meeting.

Comenzaremos con algunos anuncios comunitarios y luego, quienes busquen apoyo comunitario podrán hablar sobre su situación actual. No somos abogados y no podemos brindar asesoramiento legal, pero cuanto más hablamos con nuestros vecinos, más fuertes nos hacemos 💪

Durante la reunión, asegúrese de solicitar un formulario de membresía. Cualquier persona que asista a la comunidad forma parte de la comunidad, pero registrarse como miembro le permite participar en las votaciones y en las discusiones sobre cómo se gastan los fondos del sindicato. ¡Así que inscríbase!

Excited to see the Altadena Tenants Union’s lawsuit making a positive impact for tenants who are still displaced due to the fire or are exposed to toxic contamination in their home!

Time for Pasadena to follow the County’s lead and enforce remediation of toxic fire debris as required by State law!

After renters sued over alleged lack of enforcement, L.A. County has now clarified tenant rights and landlord responsibilities in smoke-damaged homes.

“This attempt to obscure the profit motive in landlording is all the more problematic because those who would call themselves “housing providers” in one breath, will, in the next, argue against rent stabilization, tenant protections, and other regulations on the basis that these policies make their business unprofitable, or less profitable than they would prefer. This is wanting it both ways—attempting to hide the profit motive while simultaneously insisting on it.”

Neighborhood Legal Services of L.A. County, a nonprofit legal advocacy group, announced on Thursday morning that, in conjunction with the legal firm Morrison Foerster LLP, it had filed lawsuits on behalf of the Altadena Tenants Union, Pasadena Tenants Union, along with four named wildfire survivors.
