We are currently experiencing a glitch with our online giving. Eight months ago, the new Executive Board worked to regain the organization’s nonprofit status. This opened the organization up to nonprofit fundraising options like a PayPal Giving Fund. Digital systems like these rely solely on the information provided by the IRS Public Database to confirm nonprofit status.

The IRS database is a fully automated system that updates itself the second Wednesday of the month. We were unaware that our information was out of date until we attempted to utilize the PayPal Giving Fund. As it turns out, there are many other organizations that also use the database to confirm nonprofit status when applying for sponsorships, grants, and other funding.

Several months ago we contacted the IRS and our status was changed during the next update. We were able to create a PayPal Giving Fund and were also publicly recognized by any other donation sites linked to the Pub 78 database. We were finally able to move ahead with our fundraising efforts. However, our reinstatement letter was not updated and our previous letters from 2020, 2021 were not removed from the system.

During the next update, the system recognized these old letters. As a result, Baraga County Fair can’t be found on the Giving Fund or other sites. We have contacted the IRS and they agreed to fix the issue. This should have occurred yesterday, but our information remains the same. We will continue to address this situation so that we are able to apply for funding in the future.

Those wanting to verify our status- our Determination Letter is available on our website. If you were wanting to utilize our digital giving option, or use employer-matched giving, try checking again in a month or so. We appreciate your patience as we continue to address these issues.

The past few years the fair schedule has been shrinking, mostly due to lack of volunteers. This year we’ve been faced with the additional challenge of rising operational costs. We’ve made the difficult call to make cuts from our typical program.

There are many events that can continue if volunteers are willing to help. We are currently looking to fill the following positions:

Carnival/Bounce House Volunteers

The Baraga County Fair will not be hosting a Vendor Market on Mondays. After more research, we realize our organization is not set up in a way to make this a symbiotic experience for our vendors and volunteers. We are continuing to look for ways to utilize the grounds beyond Fair Weekend. To that end, we’ve been working to put together a Rental Agreement for seasonal use of the Fairgrounds. We’re looking forward to rolling that out soon!

The Vendor Market is postponed until further notice due to the Event Organizer’s resignation from the Fair Board.

Our next meeting is June 5th. We hope to appoint new volunteers to salvage the event and see which weeks we can commit to operating. If it’s a go, we will approve our Market Vendor Packets and release them to the public as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience as we regroup.

Market Hog, Meat Goat and Lamb Registrations must be submitted to the Baraga County Fair by June 1, 2026. Exhibitor age requirements: 7-19 years as of December 31, 2026. Email [email protected] or dm the Baraga County Fair. Include name and birthdate of youth exhibitor along with animal birthdate and weight at time of registration.

Youth exhibitors are allowed only one market livestock entry. The Market Book will be forwarded to all exhibitors after registration.

The Baraga County Youth Livestock Show-Open Class Registration deadline will be announced shortly before the fair. PeeWee- ages 8 and under, Junior- ages 9-13, and Senior- ages 14-19.

The Baraga County Livestock Program plans to host a show clinic this summer, geared towards beginners. Dates and times will be posted here.

Tomorrow’s market at the Baraga County Fairgrounds is canceled.

As this was scheduled to be our very first market, we are incredibly sad to have to make this call. However, it is incredibly important to us that we ensure a positive, seamless experience and make a great first impression for everyone involved.

We sincerely apologize for the short notice and any inconvenience this may cause our valued vendors, patrons, and community members.
