WHAT IS PERRY PLEIN AIR?
“en plein air” – that’s French for outdoors and in natural light. Come join local friends & guest artists Thursday - Saturday and create your own portrayal of our incomparable southern spirit! Be inspired to enter the 2-hour QuickPaint on Saturday morning, or purchase a favorite original Saturday afternoon – maybe before the paint has even dried! WHEN DOES THE PERRY PLEIN AIR “MAIN EVENT” BEGIN? The Perry Plein Air event will start at 9am on Thursday, September 7th and runs through Saturday, September 9th at 5pm. Registered Plein Air participants must get their blank canvases stamped at JMA Architecture prior to beginning painting. This assures everyone that all work for award and sale was produced here during the event. JMA Architecture is located in the historic Cooper-Evans house at 1002 Main Street in Perry. We will have a complimentary breakfast for registered artists on Thursday, Sept 7th from 7:30am until 10am and we will begin stamping registered artists’ canvases at 8am. You may register and paint at any time during the 3-day event. WHAT IS THE COST TO PARTICIPATE AND HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE PERRY PLEIN AIR PAINT OUT? Early Registration (prior to Aug 31) for Artists is $30, Students (18 & under) $20. Registration from Sept. 1 – 9th for Artists is $35, Students (18 & under) $25. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? Anyone can participate! Students under the age of 18 must have an accompanied guardian that will be in attendance with them for this event. ARE ART SUPPLIES PROVIDED? All artists must bring and supply their own art supplies and canvases for this event. To be considered for award, artwork must be framed. HOW CAN I BE CONSIDERED FOR ONE OF THE “FEATURED ARTIST” SPOTS? The Perry Plein Air Invitational Paint Out has invited artists to participate in this event. These invited artists receive local and Facebook promotion during the event, their fees for the Perry Plein Air Main Event and Quick Paint are waived, and they have the opportunity to sell their other works of art during the Reception, Awards & Art Sale on Saturday afternoon. WHERE CAN I PAINT DURING PERRY PLEIN AIR? You may paint anywhere you like. We’ve made a list of suggested locations for those not familiar with our area:
Rozier Park (pond & forest), Evergreen Cemetery (historic, mossy oaks, creek)
Rotary Centennial Park (Big Indian Creek, walking trails), Historic Downtown Perry (historic shops, flowers, church & courthouse)
WHAT IS THE “QUICKPAINT EVENT” AND HOW DO I REGISTER? The Perry Plein Air Quick Paint Event will take place on Saturday, Sept 9th from 9-11am (registration 8-9am) on historic Carroll Street in downtown Perry. Quick Paint artists are invited to set up in the area along Carroll Street near the Ball Street intersection. There you will be able to paint the Perry Farmers Market, the old courthouse square, the historic New Perry Hotel, downtown shops, flowers, and the oldest church in Perry. Artists will then deliver the artwork, framed, to the JMA Architecture headquarters by 1pm at 1002 Main Street for the Reception, Awards & Art Sale. The event is an additional event to Perry Plein Air “Main Event” and requires a separate registration. Early Registration prior to August 31st for Artists is $10, and students (18 & under) $5. After August 31st, registration increases to $15 (Artists), and $10 (students 18 & under). Artwork for award and/or sale must be framed and submitted by 1pm to JMA Architecture. WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE FEATURED ARTISTS DOING DEMOS? Artists will let us know where they choose to paint during the event. PRIZES, AWARDS, AND SALES? Cash prizes will be awarded! We will also help artists sell their work at the Reception, Awards & Art Sale. WHAT ARE THE RULES? Artists may use any media they wish - all supplied by the artist. You may create for as long or as little time as you wish. Artwork for award or sale must be framed and stamped and turned in to JMA Architecture by 1pm Saturday. Participating artists receive 80% of the price of their artwork sold, minus sales tax. All other funds raised will cover event costs, promote the Georgia Artisan Center, and promote the arts in middle Georgia through student art scholarships.
