🌲 Protecting Our Forests with Fuels Reduction! 🌲
This week, CAL FIRE will conduct a fuels reduction burn at Sly Park, targeting 50 acres of timber understory near Jenkinson Lake. The goal? To create a healthier, more resilient forest that can better withstand drought, beetle infestations, and wildfire.
Fuels reduction is critical for maintaining a robust forest ecosystem and protecting our communities. While smoke may be visible, these burns are a key part of keeping our forests strong and our homes safe.

In order to continue the reduction of fuels and increase fire protection, CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit will be conducting two prescribed burns on Vegetation Management Projects (VMPs) in the unit tomorrow, Friday and Saturday.
📍 Shake-Omo VMP: A prescribed burn will take place on the Shake-Omo VMP on November 7 – 9 and November 11 – 13. The burn is scheduled from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the specified days in the area of Omo Ranch Road and North South Road. Smoke will be visible in the area. The objective is to burn approximately 180 acres of timber understory, grass, and brush. U.S. Forest Service - Eldorado National Forest and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District will assist with the burn.
📍 Sly Park VMP: A prescribed burn will take place within the Sly Park VMP in El Dorado County on November 7 and 8. The burn is scheduled from approximately 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on both days and will take place on the north side of Jenkinson Lake in Po***ck Pines. Smoke will be visible in the area. The objective is to burn approximately 50 acres of timber understory within the VMP. Cooperating agencies on the project include the El Dorado Irrigation District and Sierra Pacific Industries.
Both are dependent on any restrictions set forth by the El Dorado County Air Quality Management District and favorable fire weather conditions. CAL FIRE prescribed burns are evaluated hourly on the day of the burn, utilizing a Go/No Go checklist that is based on weather, resource availability, and incident activity. If burning conditions become unfavorable for a safe, controlled burn, operations will be immediately stopped.
