We’re baaaaaaack.
It’s been a minute since we had a wedding and we’ve moved into our final season. Fall 2026 is it. And we started it today. With something I thought I wouldn’t get to do before we quit doing weddings. Shoot a rain wedding. Today I got to do just that. If you’ve gotten married out here you know one of the things I tell all of our couples…no matter what, you will leave here married and you will have a story to tell.
Jared and Courtney already have the cutest, sweetest love story. We’re talking middle school crush kind of stuff. They waited a long time, living separate lives until they were brought back together and decided it was time to spend the rest of it together. Engaged on a Saturday, booking their wedding out here on Sunday. Just way too sweet.
So if you’re from around here, you know it hasn’t rained significantly months. MONTHS. And wouldn’t you know it, our first wedding since spring has a 75% chance of rain. Seems legit. However, all day long while getting everything ready, it never materialized. Well, until 10 minutes before the ceremony. We hustled 80 people from the field and into the barn and told them to hold tight. I was soaked and we hadn’t even started yet. Courtney had told us if it rained she didn’t care, they were getting married out in the field. But when the rain actually started to fall, I could see the look of defeat creeping up in her face. So I went back down to the barn to tell everyone we were likely going to wait out the rain when I heard someone yell from the house, “all right we’re doing it! Let’s go!” We told everyone in the barn they were welcome to watch from the dry comfort of the barn and almost every one of these people stood up, and marched out into the pouring rain to support these two. It was a pretty moving moment, I’m not going to lie.
The bridesmaids kicked off their shoes and they and the groomsmen all just pretended like it was a totally normal day. But it wasn’t. A quick peek through some of the photos showed me smiles I don’t normally see in my wedding photos. Not forced, posed smiles. Legitimate, I can’t believe we’re actually doing this crazy thing kind of smiles. Seriously amazing memories being forged kinds of smiles.
So Courtney and Jared got married in the pouring rain and it’s one the coolest weddings I’ve ever been a part of. Even CeeJay was walking around just getting soaked and didn’t seem to have a care in the world.
So congratulations to Mr and Mrs Cooley. Thanks for letting us be a part of that amazing story and for making my dream of shooting a rain wedding happen. What a great start to our final season.
