New in downtown Pocahontas: The Cottage Country Kitchen 101 N Marr Street in an old bank building about a block from the Lesmeister, on the court square.

Open Wednesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. It's basically a "grab and go, home-style cooking" cafeteria. Pick your main course and sides, dessert and drink and carry it back to your room to eat. (Salad bar as a meal is also available.) They also have a few dine-in tables.

Lesmeister Guesthouse is even more safe now, with completion of Breezeway's Short-Term Rental Safety Inspector Course, a certification designed to train hosts and property managers on identifying hazards and elevating safety protocols.

We've made a few changes at the guesthouse after taking the course, including making fire extinguishers more visible and easy to access, placing a safety info card by each exit door, giving each unit's 911 address, as well as the location of the first aid kit and the fire extinguisher.

New guests at an accommodation often have no idea what to do in case of emergency. We're working to help with this. In addition, we've added some lighting over the street address markers on the back of the building. Everything else about the guesthouse was already in good safety shape!

Got these notes left today from people from Arizona who traveled to Pocahontas to see the total eclipse. Loved the guesthouse, no so much our sad downtown.

Hard to believe that in 2020, before COVID and circumstances killed them, we had TWO good restaurants and pubs on the Pocahontas court square, and now we have none. Sad for us, sad for visitors to our town. :-(

We took delivery this morning of this beautiful king size bed for the new Nancy Jones Suite we'll soon have available from Lesmeister Guesthouse.

This branch of the Lesmeister will be in a building on the Pocahontas town square, just over a block from the Lesmeister building.

"Aunt" Nancy Jones and her husband had the building constructed on the square in 1859, making it the oldest building in Pocahontas, and the only thing we have left that witnessed the capture of General Jeff Thompson, next door in the now-gone St. Charles Hotel, during the Civil War.

The Jones Suite, on the second floor, has a beautiful view of the Old Courthouse and the square. We expect to have the building's rehabilitation completed so the suite can be available for nightly rentals before Christmas.
