Thank you for our partners at CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit for helping protect our community and maintaining the watershed of our largest water supply source at our Sly Park Recreation Area in Po***ck Pines. 🙌
As one of the longest continuously running vegetation management programs in the state, for four decades we have partnered with CAL FIRE as part of the Sly Park Vegetation Management Program and we are thankful for their ongoing support in helping protect this regional resource and our neighbors throughout Po***ck Pines.
Without their support, it would be impossible to accomplish the fuel reduction necessary to maintain a fire resilient watershed surrounding the reservoir.
Prescribed Burn Scheduled on the Sly Park Vegetation Management Project
The CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit (AEU), in partnership with the El Dorado Irrigation District, will be conducting a fuels reduction burn within the Sly Park Vegetation Management Project (VMP) in El Dorado County on Tuesday, October 20 and Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
The burn is planned from about 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days on the north side of Jenkinson Lake near Lakewood Drive in Po***ck Pines, pending approval from the El Dorado Air Quality Management District and suitable weather.
The objective is to burn approximately 48 acres of timber understory within the VMP to create a healthy timber stand that is resistant to drought and beetle kill, continue the reduction of fuels in the fuel break, and increase fire protection to surrounding communities.
As a reminder, smoke will be visible in the area.
All CAL FIRE prescribed burns are evaluated hourly on the day of the burn, utilizing a Go/No Go checklist that is based on weather, resource availability, and incident activity. If burning conditions become unfavorable for a safe, controlled burn, operations will be immediately stopped.
