There’s legacy… and then there’s legacy.
Since 1879, long before the City of Port Allen was even officially founded, Stone Square Lodge No. 8 has stood as a pillar in this community; steady, strategic, and unshakable.
Born in the era of Reconstruction, when newly freed men were not just navigating freedom but redefining it, the brothers of Stone Square helped built infrastructure for dignity. They created economic opportunity thru partnering with the first black owned financial instituion (The West Baton Rouge Teachers Credit Union). By allowing to house their business inside the lodge, hundreds of black families were able to finance their homes and cars creating generational wealth. They modeled discipline. They engineered leadership pipelines before the term ever existed.
Before there were paved streets.
Before there was city government.
Before Port Allen had a formal identity…
There was Stone Square Lodge No. 8 /G\.
Those men formerly enslaved, yet unbroken, set a standard of excellence that birthed generations of powerhouses:
• Civil rights leaders who stood in the gap
• Business leaders who built wealth where none existed
• Political leaders who shaped policy and protected progress
Prince Hall men are just built different 🤷🏽♂️
The Brothers of Stone Square Lodge No. 8 have always been more than ritual. We’ve supported strategy sessions for community survival and advancement.
As we continue to support the Save Our Sons Black History Parade, let’s be clear: we’re not just celebrating history , we’re activating it. We are walking in the footsteps of men who understood that brotherhood wasn’t symbolic… it was structural.
We love our city and always will but Port Allen didn’t build Stone Square.
Stone Square helped build Port Allen.
And nearly 150 years later, the work continues.
Onward. Forward. Together.
Special thanks to SOS and all who made this event successful year and year out. 👏🏾👏🏾
